In its fourth edition, The MOZART ON THE GREEN Festival will present renowned musicians, professional and students, in performances on the Ohio University College Green (August 6) and Glidden Recital Hall (August 9). The evening performances, hour-long casual concerts promise to deliver delightful and inspiring sounds for audiences of all ages.
The MOZART ON THE GREEN Festival is the creation of Steven Huang, Director of Orchestral Activities at Ohio University, and in previous years has presented free concerts every night the first week of August, drawing large crowds to each of its events. One of its central missions is to collaborate with area businesses and venues to broaden the reach of the arts in Athens.
This year’s series includes guest artist Thomas Gregory (http://thomasgregory.co.uk/), cello, London, UK; Cynthia Puls, Parkersburg, WV, and students from The Cello Company (www.trilliumpianotrio.com/thecellocompany); and recently appointed Ohio University violin faculty, Dawn Wohn (http://dawnplaysviolin.com/). Other Ohio University music faculty and alumni will round out the performances, including voice, strings, and piano. Music will include at least one work by (or inspired by) Mozart each night, complemented by works by Wolf, Villa-Lobos, Ravel, and others.
All performances are free and open to the public and will culminate with the final Festival performance on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Glidden Recital Hall on the OU campus, which will feature students from OU and beyond. The complete listing of performances is as follows:
Wednesday, August 6, 7 p.m. Under the Elms, College Green
Saturday, August 9, 7 p.m. Glidden Recital Hall
