Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

CORE Osteopathic Principles and Practices Committee

The Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) curriculum in Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) residency programs focuses on the availability of educational materials and appropriate assessment tools to document a resident's progress in his/her development of OMM skills and rational application of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT). It is the resident's individual responsibility to further her or his own education in osteopathic principles and apply them during patient care experiences. As with any procedure, it is only through clinical experiences that its value becomes evident. So it is with OMM.

To that end, the CORE Osteopathic Principles and Practices Committee (COPPC) has generated teaching materials with clinical case studies and morning reports to further elucidate the principles of osteopathic medicine as they apply to the clinical setting. These presentations are given on a regular basis at all CORE hospitals and it is recommended that residents familiarize themselves with the schedules at their individual hospitals.

OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital "Plus One" Residency

The OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital/Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine “Plus One” residency in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) is designed to accommodate the individual learning needs of osteopathic physicians who have completed an American Osteopathic Association approved internship or residency program. This program provides the qualified resident with advanced and concentrated training in neuromusculoskeletal medicine and OMM, and prepares the resident for examination for certification in these fields.

The program ensures that the resident will learn the philosophy, principles and practices of OMM, including osteopathic manipulative treatment. The resident will be exposed to various models of OMM and multiple modalities of osteopathic manipulative treatments.
