Cultivating Community Through Dance

Graduate Certificate in Community Dance

In the Community Dance model, dance professionals engage with community participants through collaborative, inclusive practices that emphasize positive experiences and human diversity. Our program emphasizes the creative process in dance as a form of research and collaboration. In this model, dance is an adaptable, inclusive, socially relevant practice.

The Graduate Certificate in Community Dance is a 12 credit hour program for students enrolled in a graduate degree program at Ohio University. Courses include studio practice in dance technique and composition; theoretical, practical, and historical investigations of dance as a community form; dance research; and project planning. This program harnesses the resources of the School of Dance BFA, BA, and MA programs, which create a rich culture of studio practice and performance in which graduate students can deepen their understanding of their art form while developing professional competencies as arts administrators and leaders.

This certificate can be completed as one of the stackable certificates in the Master of Arts Administration degree.

Admission to the Certificate in Community Dance requires an interview with the dance faculty and submission of a resumé that details dance education and experience. Contact Dr. Tresa Randall, Graduate Chair in the School of Dance.
