Apply for M.A. in Community Dance

Application Deadlines

  • February 1 – Deadline for international applicants
  • February 1 – Application deadline for full consideration for Graduate Assistantships (both international and domestic applicants)
  • March 1 – Deadline for domestic applicants

Admission Requirements

To apply for the Master of Arts in Community Dance, applicants must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in dance in an accredited program, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field with demonstrated experience and training in dance.
  • GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Transfer Credit Policy: Students are expected to complete all of the required coursework for the M.A. in Community Dance at Ohio University. In certain circumstances, students may be awarded transfer credit based on prior graduate-level academic coursework and/or professional experience. These opportunities will be discussed and considered on an individual basis. All transfer credits are subject to Ohio University policy.

  • Completed Application Form
  • Transcripts
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation (at least one from the field of Dance)
  • Resumé or Curriculum Vitae

Additional materials required for application to M.A. in Community Dance include:

  • Statement of Intent (2 pages). Why are you applying to the MA in Community Dance program? What are your future goals? How have your previous experiences and education prepared you for this program, and for a career in the field of community-engaged dance?
  • For full consideration for Graduate Assistantship funding, it is highly recommended that you submit the following supporting materials:

    • Sample lesson plans or other evidence of teaching experience
    • Published performance reviews
    • Grant applications
  • Interview with School of Dance faculty. Upon receiving a completed application, the Graduate Chair will contact applicants to schedule the interview.
