M.F.A. Printmaking

Fiona Avocado is a visual storyteller and print media artist originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Fiona graduated with a B.A. in Arts and Humanities and Professional Writing from Michigan State University in 2011. While Fiona began creating print media at Michigan State University, she is a mostly self-taught printmaker. Since graduation, Fiona acquired technical skills working alongside accomplished cartoonists and printmakers and participating in DIY arts communities and organizations in Portland OR and Minneapolis MN.

While pursuing her MFA at Ohio University, Fiona intends to deepen her exploration of the primary themes that motivate her work: the personal, the political, the quotidian, and the natural world. Through sharing individual life stories, Fiona creates visual narratives that consider impact, interaction, and participation, calling to question the dangers of maintaining the status quo. Fiona’s research at Ohio University explores scale and proportion of print media and how it affects audience relationship to visual narratives.
