The Health and Physical Education (HPE) major at Ohio University’s Patton College of Education prepares teacher-candidates to pursue careers in the field of health and physical education. The program engages candidates in a more-inclusive generation of pedagogy by promoting lifelong physical activity and healthy lifestyles for ALL.

The major features dual-teaching certification within the four-year program. Graduates earn teaching licensure in both Health and Physical Education for PreK-12th grade.

Teacher candidates practice and learn within authentic school settings and across multiple grade bands. Field experiences provide hands-on learning through observation, peer-teaching, team-teaching and culminate with professional teaching internships.
