Important Notice if You are Traveling From January 22, 2026 into the Following Week

January 22, 2026

An expansive winter storm is shaping up to impact millions from the central Plains to the East Coast on Friday through Sunday.

This storm is forecast to produce widespread heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain, which could cause widespread power outages and life-threatening travel conditions. Details remain uncertain about where the rain, snow and ice swaths will fall, but confidence continues to grow in high-impact, disruptive amounts of accumulating snow, crippling ice and prolonged cold.

As a result, our Travel Management Company, Christopherson Business Travel (CBT), is already experiencing higher than usual call volume due to winter weather. Please be aware we expect this to continue for the next several days due to forecasted weather and the widespread waivers being sent out by the airlines. Delays and cancellation from the winter storm are likely to be felt into next week as airlines deal with rescheduling.

CBT teams are doing their best to answer all calls in a timely manner.  For those travelers with future travel requests that require full-service advisor support, if you can possibly hold those until this winter storm passes, it would very much be appreciated so CBT can assist those in need of urgent travel and re-accommodations.

If you are impacted while traveling the University does have 24-hour support available through CBT. You can call the following numbers for support:

  • For domestic travel 866.266.8806
  • For international travel 801.820.0804

Thank you and we appreciate everyone’s patience as millions will be dealing with the disruption from this winter storm.
