What are the minimum qualifications for the Summer Housing Ambassador position?
- An Ohio University student enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program
- Leadership potential as evidenced by previous leadership experiences, recommendations, and staff evaluations through the application and interview process
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills through proven ability to interact effectively with others and as perceived through the interview process
- 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA)
What are the expectations of a Summer Housing Ambassador?
Summer Housing Ambassadors are expected to serve as professional, welcoming, and knowledgeable representatives of Housing & Residence Life. The position is from May 16 to August 1. Dates can be subject to change.
They are expected to:
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for families and admitted students
- Be sincerely interested in and supportive of incoming students and their families
- Demonstrate maturity, sound judgment, flexibility, and accountability
- Provide excellent customer service and interact professionally with students, families, and campus partners
- Remain knowledgeable about the most up-to-date housing policies, systems, and university information
- Identify and share campus resources for students living on campus
- Attend all mandatory meetings and required events
- Regularly check and respond promptly to messages and emails
- Maintain good conduct standing and a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Uphold departmental values, including responsible social media use that reflects positively on Housing & Residence Life and OHIO
Ambassadors are supervised by the Graduate Assistant for the Housing Ambassador Program and the Assistant Director for Specialized Housing and Student Outreach.
What is the job description of a Summer Housing Ambassador?
Summer Housing Ambassadors are undergraduate student staff members who serve in an operations and guest services role within Housing & Residence Life.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Creating a welcoming environment for families and admitted students
- Leading designated residence hall showroom tours
- Providing general information about residence hall types, features, and campus residency requirements
- Answering questions about assigned halls and housing processes
- Reporting issues or concerns within showroom halls
- Supporting OHIO admissions events such as Summer Showcases
- Completing additional duties as assigned to ensure program success
Summer Housing Ambassadors must maintain operational knowledge of housing systems, desk operations, exemption processes, lost and found procedures, and campus residency requirements.

What is the compensation for a Summer Housing Ambassador?
Summer Housing Ambassadors receive:
- A base pay rate of $11.00 per hour
- A single occupancy room in the summer school hall for the duration of the summer
