Health Psychology Biological Specimen Laboratory

The Health Psychology Biological Specimen Laboratory located in 122 Porter Hall is dedicated to specimen storage and processing for the faculty and students within the Department of Psychology. Our laboratory is fully equipped with freezers, centrifuges, a plate reader, a washer, and analyzers, which allows for local quantification of various hematological, endocrine and immune biomarkers used in departmental research. For example, we employ with standard enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) procedures to quantify salivary cortisol concentrations, among other hormones and molecules.

In addition to -80ºC and -20ºC freezers and laboratory refrigerators for sample and reagent storage, we several Hettich Universal 320R Benchtop Centrifuges for sample preparation as well as a BioTek ELx50™ automated microplate washer and BioTek ELx800™ absorbance microplate reader. In addition, we have all additional minor equipment necessary to complete ELISA and other procedures (e.g., single and multi-channel pipettes, plate shakers, vortex mixers).
