About Us

As ITDI evolves, we are committed to fostering inclusive and dynamic research initiatives. To reflect our growth and attract diverse talent, we are redefining the Bacterial Pathogenesis Initiative as Microbial Pathogenesis—encompassing Bacteriology, Virology, and Drug Discovery. This expansion strengthens our ability to address infectious diseases from multiple perspectives, advancing both research and global health solutions.

 

Bacteriology

The Microbial Pathogenesis initiative includes a group of researchers investigating various aspects of bacterial pathogenesis including but not limited to molecular mechanism underlying virulence genes expression, virulence associated-bacterial processes and host-pathogen interactions.

The mission of the Microbial Pathogenesis initiative is to foster research in the broad field of bacterial pathogenesis, to promote collaboration within Ohio University as well as with colleagues in other institutions, to train undergraduate and graduate medical students.

Drug Discovery

With the expansion and evolution of the Edison Biotech Institute (EBI), we hope to further collaborate and partner with researchers in the Drug Discovery arena to address drug development against infectious diseases.

Virology

With the addition of Dr. Maryam Ahmed, as well as a future virology position slated for HCOM, we hope that the renewed focus of the institute to include Virology in a more formal capacity.
