Ohio University to close Dec. 24 for Winter Break Closure, reopening Jan. 3
The Winter Break Closure Plan (WBC) calls for closure of the University from Dec. 25 through Jan. 1 each year. This year, since the Christmas Day holiday falls on Saturday, Dec. 25, OHIO will observe the holiday on Friday, Dec. 24, beginning WBC on that day. The University will return from WBC on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. The following days are included in this year’s WBC plan.
- Day 1: Dec. 24, Christmas observed
- Day 2: Dec. 27, President's Day observed
- Day 3: Dec. 28, WBC
- Day 4: Dec. 29, WBC
- Day 5: Dec. 30, WBC*
- Day 6: Dec. 31, New Year's Day observed
*Depending on your years of service and employment type, you may be required to use one day of vacation time during the WBC. Please refer to Policy #41.001(opens in a new window) and to the Winter Break Closure guidelines.
AFSCME 3200 employees
The listing of classified employees who must report vacation, compensatory time, birthday holiday, or personal leave on their Workforce timesheet is posted on the University Human Resources website each year in December.
AFSCME 1699 Employees
All members of the 1699 bargaining unit must report vacation, compensatory time, birthday holiday, or personal leave on their Workforce timesheet in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Administrative (hourly)
The listing of administrative hourly employees who must report vacation on their Workforce timesheets is posted each year in December.
Administrators (salaried)
Payroll systems will not grant vacation time accrual to administrators who have one or more years of continuous service as of Dec. 25 on their Dec. 31 paycheck. Administrators with less than one continuous year of service as of Dec. 25 will accrue a vacation day for the Dec. 31 pay. This means that salaried administrators do not need to submit paid time off in MPI: Absence Management for the fifth day to use vacation as required.
