Society For Human Resource Management

Student Chapter

SHRM student chapters host regularly scheduled meetings designed to help members expand their knowledge of business and the human resources field. Chapters are led by elected student officers, with guidance from a faculty advisor and SHRM professional members.

In addition to bi-weekly meetings, chapters offer a wide range of professional development opportunities, including:

  • Company tours
  • Student conferences
  • Professional development workshops
  • Internship programs
  • Social and networking events
  • Connections with SHRM professional chapter members

These experiences help students build meaningful relationships with local professionals and peers while gaining practical insights into human resource management and preparing for success after graduation.

Follow us on social media for updates on our bi-weekly meetings and upcoming events.

Amelia Shearon

Recruitment Liaison & Content Marketing Intern at Sanare

During my sophomore year, I joined SHRM as a communications major with a strong interest in people-centered work and a growing curiosity about human resources. Through SHRM, I developed a passion for recruiting and began building foundational HR experience. I also secured a B2B internship with Sanare, where I managed social media accounts and gained hands-on marketing experience. Through my involvement in SHRM and the professional network I built there, I advanced into a Recruitment Liaison role, where I support the hiring process, conduct phone screenings, and review candidates. Without SHRM, I would not have developed many of the skills and opportunities that have shaped my HR experience.

Zoe Slaven

HR Employee Experience Intern

My name is Zoe Slaven, and I'm the HR Employee Experience Intern at NetJets! Throughout their Summer Internship Program, I've had the opportunity to develop a feedback strategy that helps our HR team gain a more holistic view of what the employee experience is like and how we can do better action planning as a whole. In addition, I've been helping revamp our service awards and recognition platform to help improve how we are showing appreciation for our employees. Being a part of SHRM at OU has helped me build interpersonal communication and critical thinking skills that I find myself using on a daily basis within my intern role.
