Volunteer and Practicum Opportunities

Whether you need to gain hands-on experience in fitness, nutrition or health education for your major, or you would just like to explore a possible future major or career, consider gaining your professional experience at WellWorks. We accept a limited number of volunteers and practicum positions each semester.

Volunteer:

We have volunteer opportunities within the following departments: Healthy OHIO, Health Education, Health Screenings, Nutrition, Fitness, Event Planning, and Public Relations/Marketing.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, contact us at wellworks@ohio.edu.

Practicum:

WellWorks Practicum in Exercise Prescription and Leadership for Older Adults:  This practicum is available in Fall and Spring semesters annually. The student chosen for this practicum will collaborate with an exercise physiologist to plan, implement, and review programming for older adults at WellWorks. This includes group and individual exercise experiences that may be a component of the Active Senior program or the Phase IV Cardiopulmonary Rehab program. The student will be given regular responsibilities and trained to complete job tasks associated with an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C). To be considered for this position, please review the full position description (PDF) and email Josh Christen at christej@ohio.edu

Health-Related Physical Fitness Testing and Interpretation: This practicum is available in Fall, Spring and Summer semesters annually. The student chosen for this practicum will assist with facilitation of current testing services, including body composition analysis using whole-body densitometry (BOD POD), Functional Movement Screening (FMS), and submaximal tests of cardiorespiratory fitness. The student will collaborate with an exercise physiologist to administer and interpret these physical fitness tests. This includes physical fitness tests scheduled for the general population and for the Risk Reduction program. These job tasks develop skills that are consistent with those of an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C).  Depending on the timing of the practicum, the student may also participate in two additional fitness testing batteries: 1) Physical performance testing of the functional status of older adults; and 2) Physical fitness testing of the OUPD. To be considered for this position, please review the full position description (PDF)  and email Josh Christen at christej@ohio.edu.

WellWorks may also be able to develop personalized practicum opportunities within the following departments: Healthy OHIO, Health Education, Health Screenings, Nutrition, Fitness, Event Planning, and Public Relations/Marketing.
