Earth Day

Earth Day Events

Earth Day is Thursday, April 22, 2021, but Ohio University will continue its tradition of celebrating "Earth Day Every Day" throughout the month of April. OHIO has partnered with campus and community organizations to develop a county-wide list of Earth Month activities! Learn more about virtual OHIO events below, and visit the community Earth Day page to join the wider celebration.

Relaxing Yoga

Start your Earth Day off by participating in a mellow yoga session in the comfort of your own home or backyard to celebrate personal sustainability! Check out Yoga instructors online leading mini-sessions of peace and tranquility that truly "bring us back to Earth."

OHIO Earth Day Parade

Re-live the 2019 OHIO Earth Day Parade through a video made by graduate student Vicky Kent.  See the Passion Works Honey for the Heart costumes, hear the noise makers, virtually walk with Rufus, The Bag Monster, and Pawpaw as paraders march through campus and Athens to show our excitement for Earth Day!

Reduce, Reuse & Relax Fair and Arbor Day Celebration

The Reduce, Reuse and Relax Fair will be held online throughout the month of April on our social media (@OHIOsustainable) and through the Virtual Earth Month calendar.  Virtual attendees can learn do-it-yourself reuse and repair projects from campus and community members, find out about opportunities, webinars and other online events, and learn about sustainability initiatives. Also, join us to learn about trees on campus, celebrate Arbor Day and Ohio University's recognition as a Tree Campus Higher Education (formerly Tree Campus USA) and find out how you can have your very own red oak sapling grown from a Campus Green acorn!

Electric Vehicle Showcase

The Sustainability Awards are given to individuals and organizations nominated by their peers. The awards are separated into five categories: Faculty Sustainability Award, Student Sustainability Leader(s) Award, Staff Sustainability Advocate Award, Exemplary Sustainable Department Award and Community Sustainability Recognition.

Sustainability Awards recognize Ohio University and community members for their contributions to sustainable behaviors on all of OHIO's campuses and communities during the past year.  The individuals and groups nominated and recognized are integral to the advancement of the implementation of the Ohio University Sustainability Plan and Climate Action Plan or to the sustainability of our communities.  These awards are open to all OHIO faculty, staff or students on any of Ohio University's campuses, and the Community Sustainability Award is also open to community groups.
