Statistical Core for Health and Medicine (SCHM)

The Statistical Core for Health and Medicine (SCHM) provides statistical and research design support services for students, faculty and staff of the College of Health Sciences and Professions and the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. The shared statistical core aims to expand productivity and collaborative efforts in clinical and translational research.

Prior to seeking statistical support, please review the services we provide and those that fall outside our scope. A statistician will be assigned to your project within two business days of your statistical support request and will contact you within one week. Allow two to three weeks to complete the required work. More complex analyses may take more time.

If you are planning to submit an external grant proposal and need support during the planning stage, please include the submission deadline in your project description. This information will help us allocate resources appropriately.

Please note:

If you are planning a study, it is important that you discuss the study design before collecting the data.
For optimal use of services provided by the statistical consulting team, it is important that you approach the team with well-defined research hypothesis as we will not generate the hypothesis for you.
This is a list of what you need to provide when you approach the team requesting statistical support:
1. Document explaining the list of variables collected, their names and units of measurement. Declaration of how missing observations are identified in the data.
2. Data: The data can be shared in various formats, including Excel. It is important that data are well organized and documented. If the data is not cleaned or documented, your request will be returned to you and you will need to submit a new service request.
Each request of support will answer up to 3 queries. If you need our services to answer more than 3 questions, please submit additional requests.

Conduct power analyses
Review IRB and IACUC protocols (research design and statistical methods)
Provide written statistical analyses for grant submissions
Conduct statistical analyses, summarize study results using summary reports, graphs, and tables
Provide guidance on how to write the statistical section and results for manuscripts
Guide researchers to statistical analysis resources and training
Assist in manuscript revisions related to statistical analyses
