Getting to be someone that can offer guidance and health care to patients in some of the toughest moments of their lives.

How would you describe your time at HCOM?

HCOM was a time of exponential growth for me. I achieved things I never knew I could and feel very grateful for every opportunity I was given as a medical student to help me succeed.

Looking back on medical school, what were your most important experiences?

I feel so lucky to have gone through medical school with my classmates. They will be lifelong friends and I cannot wait for all of us to start our next chapter in residency!

How did your involvement in the Rural and Urbans Scholars Pathways (RUSP) program affect your medical education and career?

My most important experiences were my CCEs because driving to new and far locations and spending the day with people I’ve never met before truly pushed me outside my comfort zone. It was also on one of these CCEs where I developed my interest in internal medicine, which is now the specialty I am pursuing.

Tell us about your inspirations in life.

My mom is my greatest inspiration in life. She has taught me that any challenge can be overcome if you keep a positive mindset. Even when things get difficult, my mom always sees the bright side in things.

Who has helped you along the way? Is there anyone you want to recognize?

I spent a summer at Nationwide Children’s Hospital researching albumin and it’s role in protecting certain cells from injury, which could help us understand how to prevent thrombosis and heart disease in kidney disease patients. I also did research at HCOM exploring the role of Lupus in women of color seeking prenatal care. I was also fortunate to work with a mentor at Cleveland Clinic to investigate a case of rare melanoma in the small intestine.

Who has helped you along the way?

My family has always been there for me, and I am very grateful for them.

What hobbies do you have?

I enjoy ceramics, canvas art, and line dancing!
