Meet the Interim Senior Dean
Jennifer L. Gwilym, D.O. ('03), FACOFP dist., FAAFP, CS
Jennifer L. Gwilym, D.O. ('03), FACOFP dist., FAAFP, CS, is a nationally recognized physician, educator, and leader in osteopathic medical education and health policy. She currently serves as Interim Senior Dean of the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she provides executive leadership during a period of strategic planning, curricular evaluation, and institutional advancement.
Throughout her career, Dr. Gwilym has guided initiatives focused on academic excellence, accreditation integrity, and primary care workforce development. As Chair of the Department of Primary Care and Interim Senior Associate Dean for Admissions, she has led efforts in curriculum innovation, student progression, faculty development, and admissions strategy. Her leadership has emphasized measurable outcomes, mission alignment, and preparation of graduates for the evolving demands of health care.
In addition to her institutional leadership, Dr. Gwilym has been a prominent voice in state and national osteopathic organizations. She has served as President of the Ohio Osteopathic Association and President of the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. She currently serves on the Board of Governors of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and as a member of the American Osteopathic Association Bureau on Federal Health Programs. She previously served nearly a decade on the AOA Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, including service on its Executive Committee, contributing to national oversight of osteopathic medical education.
Dr. Gwilym completed the Osteopathic Health Policy Fellowship and has testified on physician reimbursement and primary care policy issues. She has pursued advanced leadership development through the Administrator Leadership Development Program, the Costin Leadership Institute, the Residency Director Fellowship Program, and executive education programs in Women's Leadership at Yale School of Management, Executive Presence through eCornell, and Financial Planning and Analysis through the Wharton School.
Before assuming senior academic leadership roles, Dr. Gwilym served as a founding residency program director and held multiple roles in undergraduate and graduate medical education. She is board certified in family medicine and has practiced in rural, public health, and community based clinical settings.
Her leadership and service have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Ohio Osteopathic Association Distinguished Service Award, the ACOFP Outstanding Female Leader of the Year Award, and designation as a Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.
Dr. Gwilym's career reflects a steadfast commitment to strengthening osteopathic medical education, advancing health policy, supporting primary care, and preparing physicians to serve their communities with excellence and integrity.
