Perkins Loan Checklist

You are due for a Perkins Loan financial check-up. Please comply with the following check points:

• Complete your Perkins Loan Exit Interview online: Contact ECSI (888) 549-3274, via online chat at ECSI for instructions, or refer to the email you received from ECSI.
   
• Check your Ohio University student account for Perkins Loan related holds. Holds remain on your Ohio University student account until: 
  • The Perkins Loan online Exit Interview is complete.
  • The delinquent Perkins Loan balance is brought current. 
  • Holds will result in no release of diploma or grades, and inability to register for classes. 
  • Contact Ohio University for more information to release holds by emailing bursar@ohio.edu.
     
• .If your name and/or address has changed:
  • Obtain court documentation of your name change and send it to Ohio University or ECSI (see Need Help below).
  • It is your obligation to keep Ohio University Office of the Bursar or ECSI updated of any address/phone number changes.
     
• Deferment forms can be found at ECSI,  Reasons for deferment include the following:
  • Unemployment, Economic Hardship/Low Income, Illness, Forbearance/Extenuating Circumstances
  • Have you entered the Military, AmeriCorps, or Peace Corps? Obtain deferment form from ECSI and submit to ECSI.
  • Have you returned to school on a half-time basis or more?  Go to your current school’s Admissions and Records Office to request a certification of enrollment. Obtain a Student Deferment form from ECSI and submit the completed deferment form with certification of enrollment to ECSI.
  • Please note, you must file for Perkins Loan deferment separately from any Direct Loan you may have obtained.
     
• Are you Totally and Permanently Disabled? Go to Federal Student Aid TPD Discharge Application or call (888) 303-7818.
  • For deceased discharge, please submit death certificate to Ohio University for dissolution of Perkins Loan.
     
• Do you qualify for Perkins Loan cancellation? Reasons for Perkins Loan cancellation include:
  • Teacher, Nurse or Medical Technician, Child or Family Services, Early Intervention, Speech Pathologist, Librarian, Law Enforcement/ Public Defender, Firefighter, Military Service, Early Childhood Education and volunteer services with AmeriCorps Vista and Peace Corps.

  • Contact Department of Education Federal Student Aid or (800) 433-3243.
  • Federal Perkins Loans are eligible for federal student loan consolidation.
