September 14, 2021

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Shawn Kerger, DO, FAOASM, has been selected to chair the Heritage College’s Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, effective Sept. 15.

Dr. Kerger is an innovative educator and skilled clinician known for outstanding OMM integration and exemplary leadership, both locally and nationally. He has served as a clinical faculty member at the Heritage College since 2014. During this time, he has made significant curricular contributions and served as a dedicated research mentor. Previously, he served as medical director of the OMM Department at Doctors Hospital and as chair of OMM at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Kerger was president of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine in 2019-2020 and has served as the academy’s liaison to the American Academy of Osteopathy for nearly 20 years. He currently serves as program chair for the AAO/AOASM 2022 Convocation and as a scorer for the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners. He is also a proud graduate of Ohio University’s College of Medicine, having served as president of our Class of 1995.

Dr. Kerger has earned the highest awards attainable in the classroom and clinical settings and was promoted to Clinical Professor status this past summer. The Master Faculty award, presented by the Heritage College and the CORE system, speaks to his exemplary teaching and mentorship. Being named a Fellow of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine attests to his clinical acuity.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Kerger on this professional milestone! I look forward to the ways in which his leadership will strengthen our training of future physicians.

Sincerely,

Ken Johnson, D.O.
