Reconnect... with Taylor Nash

August 30, 2022

At the start of 2022, I kicked off the “Reconnect” series to reacquaint students, faculty and staff with the exceptional people and programs that are at the center of a Heritage College education. Last spring featured interviews with DOTS volunteer Becky Bracken, Inclusion Scholar Shenika Zarebski, and Dual Degree student Elizabeth Jensen. I cherished the opportunity to learn about impactful Heritage College programs directly from the scholars who engage in them, and I’m looking forward to expanding the series to include faculty and staff in the future.

As for today, I'd like to share highlights from my recent conversation with prospective student Taylor Nash. Taylor was one of 24 aspiring medical students selected to participate in Summer Scholars, a rigorous five-week program designed to give prospective students an intensive introduction to the first-year curriculum at the Heritage College. Not only do Summer Scholars benefit from med ed experiences, but participants are also guaranteed an interview for the next application cycle!

When asked about his motivations for becoming an osteopathic physician, Taylor answers straightaway: “I want to serve my community, and I want to show other African Americans that we can be superheroes.”

All osteopathic physicians are superheroes in their own way. Thanks to Summer Scholars, Taylor is quickly closing in on that dream, too.

Thanks for taking the time to reconnect with the Heritage College and learn about Summer Scholars through the eyes of a standout prospective student.
