Andrew Culver to lead Specialty Medicine, OB/GYN

May 31, 2022

As Jack Ramey, D.O., nears his planned retirement from Ohio University, I am pleased to announce that Andrew Culver, D.O., will assume the role of interim chair for the Department of Specialty Medicine and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, effective July 1.

Dr. Culver is a proud graduate of Ohio University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, who has devoted more than 20 years of service to his alma mater as a medical educator. Currently, he serves the Heritage College as a clinical associate professor, a discipline director of emergency medicine and a clinical assistant dean in our Office of Medical Education. He is also an emergency medicine physician at Mercy Health St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

Over the course of his tenure at OHIO, Dr. Culver has devoted himself to supporting our learners and actualizing our educational mission. He developed and delivers our first college-wide emergency medicine course as part of our Pathways to Health and Wellness Curriculum. He has been an excellent champion for students during their clinical education experiences, serving as a mentor and ally for those in need.

Dr. Culver’s leadership extends beyond the Heritage College to the hospitals where he serves. This includes substantial committee service at Affinity Medical Center, where he provided emergency medical care from 2003 to 2018. He also currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Cleveland Academy of Osteopathic Medicine.

I would like to thank Dr. Ramey for his long-standing service as chair of our Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as his interim leadership of our Department of Specialty Medicine. Dr. Ramey will continue his duties as a faculty member in Obstetrics and Gynecology until his retirement from Heritage College on Aug. 31.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Culver on his interim appointments and wishing Dr. Ramey all the best in his upcoming retirement! In the coming months, I will engage with the departments to discuss the process for selecting permanent department leadership in accordance with the Ohio University Faculty Handbook.
