“The COM must develop a retrospective GME Accountability Report based on information reported by the COM on the AACOM Annual Report demonstrating that the COM’s mission and objectives are being met. The methods used to develop the report must be fully described and documented. The report must demonstrate the number of graduates entering GME, the positions available in the COM’s affiliated OPTI, the historic percentage of match participation (AOA, NRMP, military, etc.), final placement, the number/percentage of eligible students unsuccessful in the matches, and the residency choices of its graduates.”

The Heritage College meets Standard 8.3. The college’s 2015-16 GME Accountability Report, based on the information reported on the AACOM Annual Report, is provided separately and demonstrates that the college’s mission and objectives are being met. This report was constructed using match data submitted by the Heritage College Office of Institutional Assessment and Accreditation (OIAA) to AACOM for their Annual Report. In the Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) Accountability Report, the college has a three-year rolling average for 2012-2015 with a final PGY1 GME placement rate of 100% and 99.7% for 2013-2016 (i.e., one 2016 graduate withdrew from the Match after participating in the first round but opted out of participating in SOAP/Scramble/post-match). These data are collected and collated from results made available by the National Matching Service (NMS) and the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) on their respective Match days, followed by the windows during which previously unsuccessful candidates can find a match (scramble and Supplemental Offer and Assistance Program (SOAP) respectively).

The Heritage College’s Office of Student Affairs provides the information from the NMS and NRMP to the OIAA’s Medical Education and Program Analyst, who copies the data into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. These data from the NMS and NRMP are reconciled with self-reported match information shared with various college offices throughout the scramble/SOAP process. The final placement rate of graduates eligible and participating in the Match was then calculated as the number of graduates successfully matching divided by the number of graduates seeking GME. The percent of graduates matching to positions in Ohio, to positions in the OPTI, to positions in AOA programs, or to positions in Primary Care disciplines are also calculated using Match results. Specifics corresponding to this standard are provided in the GME Accountability Report.
