Our Mission

The purpose of this organization is to educate aspiring physicians on the diagnosis, care and cure of skin diseases, and actively promote and support the specialty of dermatology among the members of Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Dublin community and surrounding areas.

Services Provided

The Dermatology Group serves the community, college, and osteopathic profession by promoting education, service, prevention, and professional development related to skin health and dermatologic care. The organization provides medical students with opportunities to learn about dermatology through workshops, lectures, mentorship, and networking events while also encouraging community outreach and patient education. The organization plans to participate in philanthropic and service-oriented activities focused on skin health awareness and supporting underserved populations. One example includes assembling and distributing care packages containing skincare and hygiene products for underserved members of the community. Future initiatives may also include community education events on topics such as sun protection, skin cancer awareness, and general skin health. Through these efforts, the organization aims to support holistic patient care and uphold the osteopathic emphasis on prevention, education, and community involvement.

Tentative Schedule for 2026-2027

Rough Estimate* **Fall Semester**

  • Introductory meeting for students interested in dermatology and discussion of opportunities within the specialty 
  • Q&A and career guidance sessions with an experienced dermatologist and former dermatology residency program director focused on mentorship, residency preparation, and professional development 
  • Resident panel discussions with dermatology residents to discuss research, applications, away rotations, and work-life balance
  • Dermatology-focused board review and educational sessions covering high-yield clinical topics relevant to preclinical coursework and board preparation 
  • Hands-on procedural workshops, including suture clinics and basic dermatologic procedure skills training, with donated procedural supplies 
  • Community service event assembling skincare and hygiene care packages for underserved community members 

**Spring Semester** 

  • Continued board review and clinical dermatology educational sessions 
  • Additional mentorship and networking events with dermatologists, residents, and upperclassmen interested in dermatology
  • Possible skin cancer awareness and sun safety education initiatives in collaboration with other student organizations 
  • Additional procedural workshops depending on student interest and speaker availability 

*The organization may collaborate with other student organizations on educational or service events when appropriate. Funding for events will primarily come from student organization funding opportunities, potential fundraising activities, and donated educational or procedural supplies from community supporters.
