Our Mission

Humanism in Medicine is a student-led organization at OUHCOM that fosters compassion, empathy, and human connection in future physicians by bridging arts and medicine. Through creative outlets, community events, and acts of kindness, we support the personal and professional growth of Heritage College students while enriching both our campus and local communities. By celebrating the qualities that make us uniquely human - through arts, literature, music, and meaningful connection, we strive to cultivate the whole-person perspective that defines truly compassionate osteopathic medical care.

Services Provided

Humanism in Medicine provides direct emotional community support through a range of hands-on events and initiatives. Before the first exam of medical school, we write and distribute personal encouragement notes to students to combat stress, support mental wellness, and reinforce that they are capable of taking on this significant chapter of their lives. Around Valentine's Day, we sent handwritten notes and candy grams to both students and community members as acts of genuine human connection. Our dress-down day fundraiser raises money for causes that support the broader community. Yoga and painting in the park offer a free, accessible creative outlet that brings students and community members together outside of the clinical setting. These tangible acts of kindness and creativity embody the osteopathic principle that health encompasses mind, body, and spirit. Caring for one another is inseparable from the practice of quality, holistic medicine.
