Our Mission

The GI Club at OUHCOM Cleveland aims to educate, inspire, and connect students interested in gastroenterology and hepatology through academic enrichment, mentorship, professional development, and community engagement. The organization promotes awareness of digestive and liver health while providing opportunities for learning, networking, research, and service.

Services Provided

The GI Club serves the community by promoting awareness of digestive and liver health through educational outreach, health advocacy, and participation in local service initiatives. The organization supports the college and the osteopathic profession by providing students with opportunities for specialty education, mentorship, professional development, and networking within gastroenterology and hepatology. Planned philanthropic and community engagement activities include participation in the Cleveland Walk to End Colon Cancer, as well as collaborations with local health organizations to support educational events focused on nutrition, colorectal cancer prevention, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and liver health. These initiatives aim to improve community health awareness while fostering student involvement in service and advocacy.

Tentative Schedule for 2026-2027

 At this time, specific event dates have not yet been finalized. The organization is actively planning its programming and expects its schedule to be established by the end of the summer and beginning of the fall semester. 

  •  Hosting lectures and educational sessions led by GI faculty and practicing gastroenterologists. These events will focus on current topics in gastroenterology and hepatology, recent advances in the field, career pathways, and opportunities for students to connect with physicians who share their interests. 
  • Plan to offer networking, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for students interested in pursuing GI-related specialties. 
  • Exploring additional educational, service, and community engagement opportunities and is currently awaiting responses from potential faculty speakers, community partners, and collaborating student organizations. 
  • Activities include community health outreach events, participation in digestive health awareness initiatives, and partnerships with other medically focused student organizations. 

*Funding for events will primarily come from Student Organization allocations through OUHCOM, with additional support from approved fundraising activities, sponsorship opportunities, and collaborative funding with partnering organizations when appropriate. All activities and funding efforts will comply with university and Heritage College policies.
