Our Mission
The mission of the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons – Medical Student Section (ACOS-MSS) at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine-Cleveland is to educate, mentor, and inspire future osteopathic physicians by fostering interest in surgical specialties, promoting excellence in patient care, and emphasizing the application of osteopathic principles within surgery. The organization seeks to provide students with opportunities for surgical skills development, professional networking, mentorship, leadership, research involvement, and exposure to the diverse fields of osteopathic surgery. ACOS-MSS serves as a forum for collaboration between students, residents, and practicing surgeons while supporting the growth of future leaders in osteopathic medicine.

To the Community: * Participation in community health fairs and outreach events. * Volunteering with local organizations serving underserved populations. * Health education initiatives focused on injury prevention, musculoskeletal health, and wellness.
Tentative Schedule for 2026-2027
Fall:
- Welcome meeting and membership recruitment
- Surgical specialty panel featuring residents and attending surgeons
- Surgical skills workshop (suturing, knot-tying, instrument handling)
- Research in Surgery workshop and networking session
- Community service event in partnership with local organizations
- Mentor matching program connecting students with surgeons and residents
Spring:
- Operating room fundamentals workshop (sterile technique, gowning and gloving, OR etiquette)
- Advanced surgical skills workshop
- Residency and career development panel
- Community outreach or philanthropic event
- Student research and case presentation night
- Officer elections and leadership transition
