Our Promise

As a signatory to the Carbon Commitment, formerly the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), Ohio University has committed to becoming a carbon neutral campus by the year 2075. As a result of this promise, the institution has developed a Sustainability Plan and a Climate Action Plan, both of which outline impressive goals and benchmarks for the university.

Faculty, staff, and students throughout Ohio University campuses are working together to realize important goals such as carbon neutrality, increased renewable energy investments, waste reduction, and sustainability-related education and research. The entire campus community is called to action to identify roadblocks, discover solutions and celebrate triumphs that can make this university a stronger leader in sustainable development.

Your Support

The implementation of the innovative recommended strategies identified by faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members requires the support of an entire campus community. Students and professionals must work together to hold the university accountable for the impressive goals it has set for itself.

With your support, we can help fund projects required to realize these goals.

Donations made to the “Ohio University Sustainability Fund” will be used to enact infrastructure, curriculum, and research projects that can help advance success toward the goals within the Sustainability and Climate Action Plans of Ohio University.  Projects will not be housed in one single department or division. In fact, it is the intention of the OHIO Foundation that these funds will be utilized by all divisions for various sustainability-related projects hoping to advance institutional sustainability efforts.  Donations made to this fund will be added to a generic pool of sustainability funding and used toward projects agreed upon by various stakeholders.  Donors who wish to contribute to a particular project are urged to reach out to the Office of Sustainability (sustainability@ohio.edu, 740-593-0460) before making a donation so that proper funding allocations occur.

Donors and invested campus community members are invited to submit project recommendations in the form below.

The Office of Sustainability will keep a rolling list of project recommendations and associated costs of each project. When funding amounts near a total that can be utilized for projects, the Ecology and Energy Conservation Committee of the Faculty Senate will review the submitted project suggestions and make formal recommendations to the Office of Sustainability. Once a project is selected, it will be submitted to the appropriate entities on campus for approval and implementation. Projects will be announced on the Office of Sustainability website.

What dream will you help realize? On-site renewable energy generation, a Zero-Waste Campus, Green Roof projects, bike-friendly commuting infrastructure, and faculty research incentives are just a small sampling of the sustainability-related projects that have already been proposed. Sustainability cannot be achieved without everyone’s support.

Your gift – no matter the amount – makes a huge difference.
