Collegiate Recovery Community

The Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC) is a private sober environment for students to connect, engage, and thrive. CRC members can drop in to the lounge, located in Baker University Center Room 313, to relax, study, attend support meetings, and connect. Members have the opportunity to join R.I.S.E. (Recovery to Inspire, Share, and Empower), a student organization that offers peer support and fosters real connection between students who are in recovery, exploring recovery, or seeking to make positive changes regarding alcohol, substances, gambling, or other similar challenges.

The CRC and R.I.S.E. do not involve clinical therapy, diagnosis, treatment planning, or therapeutic interventions. They are a supplemental resource and do not replace individual or group mental or behavioral health treatment.

The Ohio University Collegiate Recovery Community has an institutional membership in the Association for Recovery in Higher Education.

Recovery Is Spoken Here Training

A Recovery Ally is a person who strives to eliminate the injustices faced by people in or seeking recovery from a substance use disorder by championing efforts to support recovery, empowering individuals, and creating recovery friendly environments where individuals, families, and communities can thrive. Recovery Allies aspire to create a campus community where students are comfortable seeking help and prepares members with the knowledge, skills, and tools to act as Recovery Allies.

In order to become a Recovery Ally, university community members attend a Recovery is Spoken Here (RISH) training. In this training, Bobcats learn:

  • Recovery-friendly language
  • Challenges faced by students in recovery
  • Warning signs of substance misuse or other addictive behaviors
  • How to support students and foster a recovery-friendly campus environment
  • Information on CRC and other resources

Participants will receive a sticker and bracelet upon completing the training.

If you are interested in becoming a Recovery Ally, or if you would like to schedule a Recovery is Spoken Here presentation for your classroom or organization, please contact crc@ohio.edu.
