Student Fixed Income Management Group
Founded in 2005, the Ohio University Student Fixed Income Management Group (OUSFIMG) is a student-run organization that actively manages a $3.3 million portfolio of fixed-income securities for the Ohio University Endowment Fund. OUSFIMG splits this portfolio into two sub-portfolios. One sub-portfolio is for socially responsible investments, and the other sub-portfolio is for traditional investments.
Nothing offers more hands-on learning than actively managing finances for your university. We give students exposure to the fixed income market during their college career. This sets them up to go above and beyond in their careers, as many of the skills we focus on are applicable to the industry.
Members use Bloomberg terminals to research prospective investments, analyze macroeconomic trends, and conduct weekly investment pitches that result in $100k deals. OUSFIMG students also learn crucial research and analysis skills, and investment methodologies that are necessary for success in their future careers.
Strategy
OUSFIMG only invests in investment-grade debt instruments. This means they invest specifically in agency mortgage-backed securities, which are intuitively backed by the federal government, United States treasuries, and corporate bonds from various sectors with a rating of no less than Baa3/BBB-/BBB-. This investment strategy encourages diversity and minimizes the risk of credit events.
The group strives for long-term, stable capital growth and future cash flows through selective asset analysis. We also strive to outperform our benchmark, which is the Bloomberg Aggregate.

The Ohio University Student Fixed Income Management Group is open to all students, but members and applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0.
