Climbing Wall

Located inside the Charles J. Ping Recreation Center, a 36-foot, double-sided climbing wall offers the perfect challenge for students, staff and community members looking to develop or improve their climbing skills or try climbing for the very first time!

We also have free shoes and harness rentals!

Events and Programming

Belay Clinics - Excited about climbing and want to learn another skill? Come join us at our belay clinics! We will teach you the basic skills you need to belay safely with common belay devices, which is a necessary skill for all climbers. Having a belay certification will allow you to belay other climbers at our wall and give you a foundation that can help you as a climber!

Register for our belay clinics on RecShop. You may also register in person at the Member Services desk in Ping Center from 9AM- close. 

Womxn's Climb Night

Alternates every week between Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5-10 PM. This is a time reserved for womxn, non- binary, and non-male patrons!

Lead Climb Night

Alternates every week between Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5-10 PM. Check RecShop for Intro to Lead Climbing Clinics! 

Climbing Wall Reservations

The Climbing Wall is available for group rental to Ohio University students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community. Rental rates include climbing harnesses and shoes. Reservation requests for the climbing wall and challenge program must be received at least two weeks in advance. Requests put in less than two weeks in advance may not be honored.

Rental hours are available during Ping Center operating hours, which are subject to change over holidays and non-academic sessions. Rentals of the climbing wall are not available during recreational climbing hours:
