Teacher Candidate Evaluations

The Professional Intern Observation Assessment Rubric (PIOAR) is used by the mentor teacher and university clinical educator during the 15-week professional internship to assess teaching performance, per formal observation.

Before said observation, the intern must provide a detailed lesson plan to the observer (assessor). Once observation has been completed, the assessor completes a post-conference to review the progress of the professional intern and submits the completed assessment via Qualtrics. This assessment must occur two times during the internship. The first must be scheduled during or before the fifth week of the semester. The second must occur during or before the end of the twelfth week of the semester.

  • Part-Time Professional Internship: The first semester of the yearlong internship experience for those majoring in AYA, Family and Consumer Science, MCE, Spec. Ed., HPE, and Modern Languages.
  • Full-Time Professional Internship: The 15-week capstone experience in the Teacher Education Program professional internship: The fifteen-week capstone clinical experience in the Teacher Education Program for ECEE, Music Education, and e-Campus Master's in Special Education candidates.
