Hometown: I’m a forever resident of Athens County. I live in the village of Coolville. Yes, everyone there is cool.

Education: I earned my BSVC and Communications minor at Ohio University as a non-traditional student and full-time employee.

Hobbies: I just started gardening last year, and I love canning. You know, like your grandmother (or great grandmother) used to do. It’s fun, the food tastes great, and I know where every ingredient came from. And, my co-workers and work study students don’t mind the rewards of my hobbies.

Pets: My family has 3 dogs and 2 cats. Two of the dogs are “mine.” Miller, is a poodle/terrier mix whom we got from an Amish family named Miller, from Millersburg, OH. And we have a rescued Shih Tzu (possibly mixed with poodle) whom we name Barbie, after the real Barbie and appropriately named movie.

Why OHIO? I came as an employee first, then became a student. Ohio University is a gem in Appalachia that should not be overlooked. Faculty and staff are here because we enjoy working with students. Nothing is more rewarding than to see a student excited about their program and future endeavors.

Any advice? Go to (every) class and do your homework (even the homework that’s not graded). Oh, and meet with your professors during office hours. You will be amazed at how much a 15-30 minute discussion with your professor will help you in their class. Understanding what your professor wants from you will help you understand their lectures, assignments, and tests. Try it!
