Typography

OHIO’s visual framework includes the use of four typefaces intentionally selected to help tell the University’s brand story. Each of our brand font families were chosen to convey a youthful and modern feel while also looking like they could have been found in the drawers of a 100-year-old letterpress shop. In other words, these are forever fonts – they can carry history while also pointing to the future.

Note: These fonts are licensed by the institution. P22 Mackinac, Termina and Proxima Nova are automatically available on University-managed computers. More information on font access is available below.

Brand Typefaces

The two main typefaces for OHIO are P22 Mackinac and Termina.

Primary

P22 Mackinac

Primary Use Cases: Headings, Body Copy
CSS Variable: var(--text-serif)

P22 Mackinac versatile typeface with a modern, yet classic timeless feel. This should be the primary font used on most brand executions.
Display

Termina

Primary Use Cases: Headings
CSS Variable: var(--text-display)

Termina is a typeface with a modern twist featuring generously wide letterforms that is best used for big and bold headlines.
Secondary

Proxima Nova

Primary Use Cases: Body Copy, CTAs, Small Text
CSS Variable: var(--text-sans)

Proxima Nova is a sans serif with a clean, modern feel and geometric proportions. Use this typeface sparingly when Termina feels too wide. Best if reserved for body copy, call-to-actions, captions and other smaller call outs.
Display Alt

Industry

Primary Use Cases: Headings, Pull Quotes, CTAs
CSS Variable: var(--text-display-alt)

Industry is a sans serif font that is the Midwest in typeform. This typeface is a design element reserved exclusively for designers using Adobe Creative Cloud and is not available for desktop download for broad distribution. Use this font sparingly. Ideally this font works best for icon illustrations, pull quotes, and CTAs. Always use all caps and 50pt kerning.
