Every image should feel authentic, welcoming, and rooted in place, showing not just who is here, but what it means to be part of OHIO—now and forever.

Style Pillars
Our photography and videos serve as essential tools that effectively capture the essence of the OHIO brand and experience, significantly influencing our communication. Whether utilizing existing images or planning new shoots, each photo should align with one (or more) of the designated style pillars: Experience First, Personal and Connected, Welcoming and Accessible, Rooted in Place, Authentic, and Clear and Purposeful.
Experience First
Focus on moments where students are actively learning, creating, and discovering. Show engagement, curiosity, and growth in action. Avoid passive or staged scenes.
Personal and Connected
Highlight genuine interactions between students, faculty, staff, and community. These connections should feel natural and meaningful.
Welcoming and Accessible
Photography should feel open, approachable, and inclusive and should reflect a supportive and engaged community.
Clear and Purposeful
Every image should communicate something meaningful. Simple and strong composition are critical to communicating effectively in a media saturated environment.
Where to Start
Using Photo and Video
OHIO Photo Library
We utilize Photoshelter to house an online gallery of university photography. Photos are organized into galleries by subject. Many of our galleries are publicly accessible and you are welcome to browse through the archives. Individuals must log in with their OHIO ID to access additional features and the ability to download images for use.
Request Custom Imagery
You can request new photos or videos from the UCM Photo and Video team. Typical projects include studio portraiture, environmental portraits, event coverage, video streams, and promotional video production.
Initiate a new project request by visiting the 'UCM Request Form,' selecting "I need a specific marketing service or services," selecting "Photo" or "Video," and completing the remaining questions.
Photo Releases
Completion of the "Consent for Publicity Release" form is required for all students and employees who appear on camera.
NEVER use photographs of children under the age of 18 who participate in University-sponsored activities without obtaining a publicity release from their parents/guardians.
Stock Images
Prioritize using existing brand assets or request a new photoshoot, when possible, instead of using stock photography.
