Speaker Anthony Gilbert to Discuss How Biologists' Predict Responses to Climate Change

The Libraries Graduate Research Series (GRS) continues on Wednesday November 14, when Anthony

Gilbert, Ph.D. candidate in Ohio University's Department of Biological Sciences presents: How Do Biologists Predict How Species Will Respond to Global Climate Change? Gilbert's presentation will be from 1-2:30pm in the Friends of the Libraries Room (Alden Library 319). The presentation is open to the OHIO community as well as members of the public.

Gilbert, who also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Biology from the University of California-Berkeley, conducts research on how lizard species in extreme environments, such as deserts or high-elevations, use behavior and physiological changes to maintain their population growth in the face of climate fluctuations. The presentation will provide an overview of the ways in which biologists use historic and contemporary data to inform their predictions of how species will adapt to a climate in flux. This process requires that biologists have access to archives and historical records, like catalogs of natural history and geographic distributions, which offer the information needed to build an understanding of how biological organization has changed along with environmental change.

The GRS shines a spotlight on the process of research for graduate students at Ohio University and the many research support services across the University that makes it possible for students to pursue their ideas and curiosity.
