Smith has a long history with the Bobcat family, as she graduated from OHIO with her bachelor’s, and she has been working with the University for about 24 years. Previously, Smith provided administrative support for the College of Education since 2001. Now, she will be a part of the Libraries’ Acquisitions department where she will be responsible for purchasing and receiving monographs added to collections, as well as acquisitions for Special Collections, Music & Dance, Fine Arts and other areas.

Smith mentioned in an email how she was attracted to the position because of the purchasing aspect, as she enjoys being a buyer, and she has loved her time so far working with a new division at OHIO.

“University Libraries [and] Alden [Library] is a great place to work,” Smith wrote. “Everyone has been very welcoming and supportive.”

In an email sent to University Libraries staff, Seth Sisler, head of acquisitions and collection services, praised Smith for her impressive resume and mentioned what an asset she is to University Libraries.

“She [Smith] brings decades of purchasing, administrative and organizational experience that we expect will benefit both Acquisitions and the Libraries as a whole,” Sisler wrote.

University Libraries is pleased to welcome Melinda Smith, library support specialist, to her new OHIO family.
