Appendix E: Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I pursue a certificate program while in the IIP?
A: Contact the IIP Director to discuss specific circumstances.
Q: What if my Primary Academic Unit doesn't offer the level of degree I'm seeking?
A: For doctoral students, the Primary Academic Unit must offer Ph.D. degrees. Master's students must be admitted under a unit that offers master's degrees, which excludes the Honors Tutorial and University Colleges. If the intended Primary Academic Unit does not offer the level of degree you are seeking, then you would need to choose a different Primary Academic Unit that does offer the level of degree you wish to pursue.
Q: How do I resolve conflicts with my advisor?
A: Contact the IIP Director first for mediation and guidance on formal procedures if needed.
Q: Can I change my emphasis areas after admission?
A: Yes, with Guidance Committee approval and Program of Study revision.
Q: How do I register dissertation/thesis hours?
A: You will need to enroll in dissertation/thesis hours with your primary academic unit.
Q: Does the IIP offer funding, such as assistantships ?
A: No, the IIP is not currently offering assistantships or university funding. If an applicant intends to seek possible financial support from one or more of his/her cooperating academic disciplines, we strongly encourage that materials be submitted by the cooperating discipline's funding priority deadlines. Consult the discipline's website for information
