Our faculty are passionate about their careers as educators and practicing professional artists. With a rich network of professional connections, Ohio University School of Theater faculty are continuously working in major regional theaters; students are often invited to accompany faculty on these projects.
Graduate Programs in Theater
The School of Theater is comprised of three areas that offer graduate degrees: Performance, Theater History (PATH), and Production, Design and Technology (PD&T).
Ohio University alumni (stretching back to the 1940s) can be found working across the United States and in all major theater cities.

Three-Year Master of Fine Arts Programs
Our M.F.A. programs refine student knowledge of theater making with the best professional standards, giving students an opportunity to examine and uplift the skills, values, and standards that form a bridge to high functioning careers in the theater.

Acting (M.F.A.)Graduating actors from the Professional Acting Training Program (PATP) are well-rounded, skillful and creative actor/artists with a distinct, specific and personal approach to the craft of acting.

Directing (M.F.A.)The Directing program is currently on hiatus. A notice will be published when it is resumed.

Production Design (M.F.A.)The Production Design program prepares students for careers as designers in all aspects of the professional theater. Our training provides a strong foundation in design and the skills to compete in the professional market.

Production Technology (M.F.A.)The Production Technology prepares students to understand and work in the professional theater. Our training provides a strong foundation in design and technology and the skills to compete in the professional market.
One-Year Programs
These one-year programs of study meant for students who have a pre-determined focus that can be accomplished within a relatively intensive period. The M.Ed in Theater Education leads to Licensure in K-12 Education.

Theater (M.A.)The Theater program, a Master of Arts (M.A. )degree, is a 30-credit program that offers a base in theater history and performance studies with possible additional in-depth study in directing or design and technology.

Arts Administration (M.A.A.)The Master of Arts Administration provides applied leadership acumen, merging arts administration knowledge with training in discipline-specific management.

Theater Education (M.Ed.)Interested in exploring a career path in theater education? The one-year degree track in Theater Education master's program with Licensure in K-12 Education can be completed in one year (three academic terms) in-person.

Arts Administration CertificateThe Arts Administration Graduate Certificate develops leadership acumen in the arts for working artists, professionals from other disciplines, and current arts managers or teachers.
