Mentor Roles and Responsibilities
What is a College Credit Plus Course Mentor?
For each course that a high school teacher is approved to instruct, an OHIO faculty mentor will be assigned by either the regional campus or Athens campus based academic department. The faculty mentor is responsible for instructional oversight, on-site course observation and will act as a general advisor for the high school teacher.
The mentor is vital to ensuring that the dual enrollment course is equivalent in rigor and quality to courses taught on campus.
Requirements to be a Mentor
Faculty mentors will be identified during the high school instructor approval process by the regional campus Dean and/or the Athens campus department chair. In order to be selected as a mentor, the following requirements must be met:
- Current OHIO faculty member in the discipline: Tenure-Track Faculty or Instructional Faculty
- Does not have to be 1.0 FTE but should be instructing at least one course or conducting department approved research.
At the discretion of the campus and/or academic department, a Fixed-term Contract Faculty may be considered as a mentor, if one of the following conditions is met:
- The individual is a retired OHIO Tenure-Track Faculty or Instructional Faculty member who has returned to teach as a Fixed-term Contract Faculty. This individual may assume all mentorship responsibilities. The mentorship role will not exceed the maximum load requirements established for Fixed-term Contract Faculty instructors.
- The individual has been approved as an OHIO adjunct and has a demonstrated, successful record of instructing for OHIO: minimum 6 semesters. This individual will be permitted to conduct classroom observations and serve as a general resource for the high school instructor; however, an OHIO faculty member may be responsible for the other mentorship duties: syllabus, course outcome, professional development/orientation, use of university technology, etc. The mentorship role will not exceed the maximum load requirements for Fixed-term Contract Faculty instructors.

Mentor Stipends and Mileage
Mentorship responsibilities require faculty time and resources that should be recognized and rewarded. Compensation will be provided by the campus or department associated with the course section number at the end of the respective semester, regardless of the “home” location for the faculty mentor. Note: compensation earned for faculty mentorship will count toward faculty overload maximums during fall and spring semesters.
Unless other arrangements are determined between the campus/college/department and the individual faculty member, compensation will be determined as such:
- The 1st year/semester that a teacher instructs an OHIO course, the mentor will receive $500 per high school instructor per 3 credit course
- Every year/semester thereafter, the mentor will receive $250 per high school instructor per 3 credit course
- An additional $100 stipend will be offered for classes that include a lab with lab setup
- Mileage reimbursement will be provided
Payment Procedures
Athens campus faculty members who serve as a mentor for a regional campus CC+ instructor will have mileage reimbursement processed centrally by RHE. Faculty should contact Rosanna Howard, Director of Operations and Budget for Regional Higher Education. Rosanna will also process mentor stipend contracts for each faculty member. The centralized approach for Athens-based faculty will hopefully help reduce confusion for faculty who are mentoring CC+ instructors through multiple campuses.
Each regional campus dean’s office will process mileage reimbursement and stipend contracts for faculty mentors from their respective campuses.
Stipends and mileage for faculty members who mentor Athens campus CC+ instructors will be handled by their academic college Dean’s Office.
