Course Enrollment
Each participant in CC+ will be assigned to an academic advisor who will make available his or her office hours and meeting scheduling procedures. The academic advisor will be able to assist students with identifying available academic resources and support services as well as to answer questions pertaining to academic policies such as add/drop deadlines.

Level 1
In most cases, students who have completed 15 or fewer semester hours may only enroll in courses that Fall within the Ohio Transfer Module (OTM), Transfer Assurance Guides (TAG), and Career-Technical Assurance Guides (CTAG) or any course in computer science, information technology, anatomy physiology and foreign language (including American Sign Language). All courses in the following computer science, information technology and foreign language subject areas are eligible level 1 courses:
Foreign Language Subject Areas: ARAB, CHIN, DSI, FR, GER, GK, HSLS, INDO, ITAL, JPN, LAT, RUS, SUDN, SPAN and SWAH
Computer Science and Information Technology Subject Areas: CS, CTCH, ITS and MIS
Study Skills and Career Guidance Courses
Courses that are designed to assist students with study skills or academic / career success are considered eligible level 1 courses. Examples of these would be EDCE2010 and UC1100. Please consult with the Online, Transfer and Credit Services Center if there are other similar courses you would like considered.
Sequential Courses
Level 2 courses are permitted if the course requisite is on the level 1 list and has been successfully completed by the student.
Level 2
Students who have completed 15 hours or more can enroll in any course for which requisites have been met and which has not been designated a “non-allowable” by the Ohio Department of Higher Education (see below for a list of non-allowable courses).
Course Restrictions/ Non-Allowable Courses
Based on State law, the following type of courses are not eligible for College Credit Plus students:
- One-on-one private instruction course
- Course with fees that are equal to or greater than $750
- Study abroad courses
- Physical education courses
- P/F or S/U grades (unless the course is an internship or is a transferable course for all enrolled students)
- Remedial course
- Sectarian religion course
- Courses that require an overnight experience
Course Selection and Availability
Admission to CC+ does not guarantee admission to specific courses. In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, Ohio University must take care to give registration priority to its degree-seeking students while attempting to provide CC+ students with reasonable class choices. However, once a CC+ student has officially registered for a course they will not be displaced.
The University cannot guarantee the availability of all courses a student may wish to take. Therefore, students are advised to work closely with their school counselor in planning CC+ enrollment to ensure that graduation requirements will be met.
Course Delivery Options and Locations
Students are permitted to register for any course listed in Ohio University’s course catalog, including non-term based courses, so long as they meet the pre-requisites for the course. This includes online courses and courses offered at a secondary school location by either an Ohio University faculty member of an approved secondary school teacher.
Enrollment Limitations
CC+ students may not take more than 30 college credit hours per academic year and not more than 120 college credit hours total through CC+, including those eligible to begin the program in 7th and 8th grade. The restrictions prescribed in this section shall be reduced proportionately for any such student who enrolls in the program beyond their 9th grade year or during the course of the school year.
- Four academic school years (120 hrs), if the student enrolls for the first time in grades 7, 8, and 9
- Three academic school years (90 hrs), if the student enrolls for the first time in grade 10
- Two academic school years (60 hrs), if the student enrolls for the first time in grade 11
- One academic school year (30 hrs), if the student enrolls for the first time in grade 12
Ohio University does not permit CC+ students to enroll and / or participate in any activity, course or program that would require overnight experiences which includes education abroad. Additionally, enrollment in aviation, equine studies and print-based courses is not permitted. Enrollment in remedial and/or developmental courses is not permitted under either Option A or B.
Course Registration Procedures
College Credit Plus (CC+) students will all utilize the same technology and follow the same academic calendar as all OHIO students. A paper registration form and guidance counselor signature are not required on any of Ohio
University’s campuses. However, each campus will manage registration holds for each student in order to ensure proper advising and appropriate course selection. The advising hold will prevent students from adding and removing courses from their schedule without consultation from their academic advisor.
New Students
- After being admitted and matriculated, the student is term-activated and a new student orientation hold is placed on their account by the Registrar’s Office.
- The student attends a required orientation session. The student and their parent, as appropriate, sign the CC+ Advising & Risk Acknowledgement Form.
- The regional campus student services office or University College on the Athens campus will collect the forms and release the new student orientation holds. NOTE: At the end of the orientation day, an advising hold will be added to all students.
- Students can choose to do any of the following:
- Register for classes on campus during orientation with consultation from their academic advisor
- Leave orientation without registering and return to campus to register at a later date
- Leave orientation without registering and register from an off-campus location at a later date
- Student would need to reach out to his/her advisor with information about enrollment plans and readiness to register: phone or email
- Advisor would release advising hold at that time and notify student that the hold will be added back onto their student record within 24-48 hours
- Advisor will review the student’s enrollment at the time the advising hold is added and will reach out to the student with any questions/comments/concerns
- Once registered, students will need to consult with their academic advisor prior to making any changes to their schedules. NOTE: The advising hold will prevent students from adding and removing courses from their schedule without consultation from their academic advisor.
- Students are strongly encouraged to have their schedules finalized prior to the date of the pre-term notice of enrollment. All students must be registered in OHIO coursework within the posted add/drop deadlines for their selected coursework.
Continuing Students
- All continuing CC+ students will have an advising hold placed on their account prior to subsequent term registration periods opening.
- Continuing students must meet with their academic advisor, either in person or over the phone, to discuss course selection.
- Students can choose to do any of the following:
- Register for classes on campus during their advising appointment
- Leave their advising appointment without registering and return to campus to register at a later date
- Leave their advising appointment without registering and register from an off-campus location at a later date
- Student would need to reach out to his/her advisor with information about enrollment plans and readiness to register: phone or email
- Advisor would release advising hold at that time and notify student that the hold will be added back onto their student record within 24-48 hours
- Advisor will review the student’s enrollment at the time the advising hold is added and will reach out to the student with any questions/comments/concerns Students will be encouraged to have their schedules finalized prior to the date of the pre-term notice of enrollment
