Academic Advising
Each participant in CC+ will be assigned to an academic advisor who will make available his or her office hours and meeting scheduling procedures. The academic advisor will be able to assist students with identifying available academic resources and support services as well as to answer questions pertaining to academic policies such as add/drop deadlines.
Registration & Advising Holds
Beginning Fall Semester 2015-16 (2161) X01 College Credit Plus service indicator (hold) will be used to prevent CC+ students from adding, removing, or swapping classes from their schedule. The K03 and X03 holds should no longer be used.
Some faculty and staff have access to place and remove the X01 using either the Reason Code of ORIEN or ADVIS.
- X01 with Reason Code ORIEN (College Credit Plus Orientation) will be mass placed by the University Registrar after the student is matriculated and term activated for their first term of enrollment. This hold is only for new admits. After students have completed their orientation and initial advising with you please remove this hold so they may register for classes. Once they complete their schedule please add X01 with Reason Code ADVIS (College Credit Plus Advising) to prevent any changes.
- X01 with Reason Code ADVIS (College Credit Plus Advising) should be added by you after the student has registered for classes their first term and used every term thereafter to prevent them from changing their schedule without consultation with you. Two to three weeks prior to Priority Registration appointments opening (early October/early March) another X01 ADVIS hold will be mass placed by the University Registrar for the next enrollment term for currently enrolled students in major codes ND9955 or ND9956. You should remove this hold after advising and prior to the priority registration appointment of the student. Once they complete their schedule please add X01 with Reason Code ADVIS (College Credit Plus Advising) to prevent any changes. The Office of the University Registrar will add the X01 ADVIS hold on the 16th day of the term for any active CC+ students for that term. The hold can be removed and added multiple times for a term if necessary. The R10 hold (Priority Registration Advising) hold will not be used because it allows the student to drop classes.
- X01 with Reason Code GRAD (CC+ Graduating from HS) is mass placed on students prior to summer registration opening and again before priority registration for students who will be graduating from high school (Admissions “To Date”) after current term by Registrar’s Office. This hold prevents registration in future terms by high school graduates. Students who are enrolled for the current spring semester and have a high school graduation of spring or summer will not be term activated for future semesters. The CC+ program plan stack will be discontinued for these students after grades are posted for current term.
The hold description instructs students to contact University College or their regional campus student services office for assistance.
At-Risk Students
Defining At-Risk Students
The following is how Ohio University defines both first term and continuing CC+ participants who may be At-Risk of poor academic performance.
First Term Students
- Any student who is concurrently enrolled in the 7th or 8th grade and at least one college level course regardless of course delivery location.
- Any student who is enrolled in one or more online courses regardless of grade level.
- Any student whose Accuplacer scores, in any subject area, are below the Statewide Uniform Remediation- Free Standards.
- Any students whose secondary school GPA at the point of admission to the CC+ was below a 2.5.
Continuing Students
- Any student who earns below a C- in a course or who has a GPA less than 2.67 (B- average) in the previous term.
At-Risk Advising & Academic Mentoring
All students will have one individual advising appointment per term at a minimum to discuss academic goals and classes for the next term. In addition to this, students considered “at risk” should be contacted by their advisor sometime within the first five weeks of the term to see how the student is adjusting to the class workload and to discuss available academic support such as tutoring, supplemental instruction, or academic coaching. The student should also be reminded of the importance of meeting regularly with their professors and monitoring their grades. Also, advisors should remind at risk students of the drop and withdrawal deadlines so that students can remove themselves from classes in a timely manner if needed.
Each regional campus will also develop at-risk plans that identify at-risk students and ensure that they are monitored and assisted appropriately.
