History Major Part I
Introductory History Courses
Three introductory level courses, one in each of the following areas:
Component A: European History
Component B: World History
Component C: United States History
Historical Research and Writing
- HIST 3111J - Historical Research and Writing
- This course also fulfills the BRICKS requirement for advanced writing.
History Major Part II
Section I- Elective Courses
In addition to HIST 3111J, complete a total of 21 hours of history courses at 3000 and above. These courses should include at least one course in each of the following chronological periods and geographical areas.
Section 2: Chronological History Course Requirement
Component A: Pre-Modern History
Component B: Early Modern History
Component C: Modern History
Section 3 - Geographical History Course Requirement
Component A: World History
Component B: European History
Component C: North American History
Almost all of the 3000-level courses count toward both a chronological and a geographical area. For example, HIST 3231 (Latin American History: From Independence to the Present) counts as both “Modern History” and as “World History.”
