Ohio Residency
Ohio Residency for Tuition Purposes
As a state-assisted institution, Ohio University is obligated to comply with the law established by the Ohio legislature and charged to the Ohio Department of Higher Education in regard to verifying residency status and assessing tuition costs for each student.
Students classified as Ohio residents for tuition purposes receive the benefit of a state-supported education, funded largely by the taxpayers of Ohio. The Residency Guidelines are meant to exclude from Ohio resident classification those people who are in the state of Ohio primarily for the purpose of receiving the benefit of a state-supported education.
To be classified as an Ohio resident for tuition purposes, a student must meet the guidelines for residency as defined by the State Legislature and the Ohio Board of Regents. The term "Ohio resident" for tuition purposes may differ from other definitions of Ohio residency.
