Kids In College

For over 40 years, Ohio University Chillicothe has offered an opportunity for highly motivated students (Kindergarten through 8th grade) to reinforce the knowledge and instruction they received in school.

Kids in College is a summer enrichment program for students who are interested in the sciences, arts, languages, and history. This hands-on programming is staffed by a variety of enthusiastic, imaginative instructors, business owners, and college faculty.

The cost per class is $38. Some classes require additional material fees. Please check the class description for additional fees.

Registration deadline is May 28.

Shirts can be purchased for $12. Shirt orders must be placed by May 23.

Creative Adventures

Location: Ohio University Chillicothe

Come learn about the world of art! Each day features new activities and promises to be a creative adventure filled with artistic exploration and fun! 

Pickleball

Location: Ohio University Chillicothe Shoemaker Center

Who wants to try Pickleball? This game is a thrilling combination of badminton, tennis, and ping-pong, and it's sure to keep your kids engaged and entertained.  Please wear tennis shoes and bring a water bottle.

Summer Stage

Location: Ohio University Chillicothe, Bennett Hall Auditorium

Come be immersed in the magic of theatre and bring their active imaginations to life.  Build your great big acting skills with high-energy morning sessions focusing on character, movement, voice, creative dramatics, and improv. Utilize those skills in the afternoon to rehearse scenes from classic books, plays, and films, culminating in a final performance on the last day.

Summer Time Sweets at Nellie Dog

Location: Nellie Dog Pottery and Paints Studio, 37 N. Paint Street

At Nellie Dog Pottery & Paints, art is our thing and fun is our game. Art is a great way to build your child’s self-confidence and creative skills. In this class, students will paint on multiple different media types and get an introduction to clay hand-building. They will use a variety of tools, media, paints, and glazes (Pottery). Imagination is the goal and fun is the outcome.

Flip & Dive

Location: YMCA of Ross County, 100 Mill Street
Instructor: Ross County YMCA Pool & Gymnastics Staff
Grades: K-2

Learn the basics of tumbling, balance, flexibility and the fun of gymnastics. Then head to the pool to enjoy games, relay races, and swimming challenges with other students. 

Thinking like a Scientist

Location: Ohio University Chillicothe Technology Building, Pohlman Road, Room 113

Science is not a fixed set of facts or a list of topics. It is a process through which we can continually improve our understanding of the world around us. In this class, we'll experiment with how these methods are applied to a wide variety of fields. Students will perform experiments with light, sound, and motion, search for patterns in what they find, and use those patterns to predict the outcome of further experiments. We will also see how these methods distinguish science from pseudoscience and can help us avoid being fooled.

Archeology for Kids

Location: Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, Mound City Group, 16062 State Route 104

Do you like discovering new things and learning about history? Are you not afraid to get a little dirty? Well, you might make a good archeologist! Archeologists learn about the past by carefully peeling away layers of dirt to uncover objects and places that past people left behind. During this course, you will help Rangers from the National Park Service uncover an archeological site, record important information for future archeologists, study the objects that past people left behind to learn about their lives, and share your findings with visitors at Hopewell Culture National Historical Park. Come learn how archeologists preserve and protect the past and how you can play a part!  

Children Engaged in 19th Century Activities at Worthington Mansion

Location: Adena Mansion and Gardens

Come and join us as we step back in time and explore the lives of children living in Ohio in the early 1800s. Compare and contrast the lives of children who lived in the mansions, like Adena and the lives of the common farmers. Discover the daily chores of both groups. Explore the kinds of foods they ate, the clothes they wore and how they had fun. This interactive program provides opportunities to learn of the varying cultures of early Ross County. 

STEM Plus Art = STEAM through Literature

Through this hands-on, minds-on, highly engaging course, students will explore many topics in STEAM through the lens of literature. We will be using children’s literature to build interest in experiments and activities that are sure to attract the young, curious mind.
