Admission Requirements

In the past, Biological Sciences had a very strong admission requirement of a PL1-level math placement. With the implementation of the test optional admission pathway, this requirement is no longer in place. However, achievement of PL1-level math placement can be a good indicator of strong preparation in math. After admission to Ohio University, first-year students may transfer into a Biological Sciences major if they have earned a grade of ā€œCā€ or better in both BIOS 1700 and BIOS 1705 and have a minimum accumulative GPA of 2.5 at Ohio University.

For information about changing your major to biological sciences or transfer admissions requirements, view the academic catalog.

Student Success Stories

Grace Vance Studied How Whiskers Help Seals Sense Their Environment

In her internship, Grace Vance participated in a project that explored eared seals' hydrodynamic perception, i.e. how they use their whiskers to sense water movements and detect predators and food sources. Her summer internship was at the Marine Science Center located in Rostock, Germany.

Fair Pape Dived into Marine Survey Internship in Thailand

Fair Pape put her experience in OHIO's Scuba Diving Club to use in her summer internship with Global Reef in Thailand, where she actively contributed to coral restoration effects. Throughout her internship, Pape conducted comprehensive surveys on fish abundance, reef health and crow-of-thorns starfish. She also planted corals and participated in initiatives to reduce plastic pollution.

About Faith Pape's Internship

Faith Pape encounters marine wildlife while diving in Thailand, part of her extensive work on marine ecosystem health and protection.
