Isabella Owen named Culinary Services Student Employee of the Year

Ohio University's Culinary Services has named Isabella Owen as the department's 2017-18 Student Employee of the Year. Owen, who is majoring in accounting and business pre-law, is the student coordinator at Latitude 39. 

“Isabella began working at Latitude 39 the first day of her freshman year. Since then she has been promoted to student leader and now is the student coordinator,” said Cris Schmitt, a general manager at Latitude 39 who nominated Owen for the award. “It is very rare that a student stays loyal to their college job, but Isabella has maximized every opportunity. She has positively impacted Latitude 39 with her outstanding customer service skills.”

In recognition of her exemplary service, Culinary Services staff presented Owen with a certificate and $250 in Bobcat Cash on March 2 at Latitude 39. In addition, four award finalists were honored for exceptional contributions to the Culinary Services team:

  • Katie Linson, Rinkside student coordinator
  • Justin Kelman, The District on West Green office assistant
  • Sydney Connor, Nelson Market student coordinator
  • Corey Cale, Campus Cafes student leader


As OHIO's largest student employer, Culinary Services employs more than 2,100 students in a variety of roles. The department's annual Student of the Year award recognizes a student employee who has demonstrated outstanding reliability, quality of work, initiative, teamwork and contribution to Culinary Services. Award winners are nominated and recommended by their supervisors. To be eligible, student employees must 1) be actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree as a full-time student at OHIO, 2) have worked for Culinary Services for a minimum of two semesters, and 3) have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
