VisCom students Nate Swanson and Alie Skowronski placed second and fourth, respectively, in the Photojournalism Features and News Competition of the 2020-2021 Hearst Journalism Awards Program. The winners in this first competition of the year were selected from 117 entries submitted from 65 universities nationwide.

Current seniors Madeleine Hordinski and Alexandria Skowronski worked with renowned photographer Paolo Verzone during a National Geographic Magazine photo assignment with Dr. Lawrence Witmer in March. The story was featured on the cover of the recently-released October print edition of the magazine.

Ohio University will implement a phased reopening in the fall, with most Athens campus students beginning their fall classes remotely on August 24 and continuing remotely through September 27.

Four new online graduate certificates are being launched, focused on crisis communication, media training and digital media project management. The certificates can be stacked toward the online master's degree in organizational communication. A crisis communication workshop, counting as a credit hour toward the certificate, will be held online on August 1, 2020.
