Visual Communication Graduate Programs

The School of Visual Communication offers a Master of Arts degree with specializations in four fields of study: Photojournalism, Commercial Photography, Information Graphics and Interactive Design, and Visual Media Management.

A Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree in Communication Media Arts, offered by the Scripps College of Communication, also offers several areas of study related to visual communication.

The heart of VisCom is storytelling in various mediums, and students will push their skills to the next level through advanced coursework, interacting with our professional faculty and collaborating with award-winning alumni and students.

    Photojournalism


    The Photojournalism Concentration focuses on photographing people and places within the community, with a focus on a documentary style of storytelling.

    Commercial Photography


    Commercial Photography Concentration students work in the studio and on location to create images that showcase fashion, still life, portraiture and architecture.

    Information Graphics & Interactive Design


    The Information Graphics & Interactive Design Concentration brings together the professional practice of designing infographics, user experience and web design to tell stories across multiple platforms.

    Visual Communication Management


    The Visual Communication Management Concentration offers students the opportunity to adapt courses to fit their goals in audio/video storytelling, management, design, interactive, photography, or picture editing.

    Our Three-Year MFA Program


    The Scripps College three-year MFA program is designed for seasoned media professionals and integrates advanced production skills and contextual knowledge with state-of-the-art facilities.

The School of Visual Communication awards a limited number of graduate recruitment scholarshipsgraduate assistantships, teaching assistantships, and helps place some students in campus work-study positions related to their field of study and expertise.

The Knight Fellowship is an extraordinary opportunity for a mid-career professional to earn a master's degree from the School of Visual Communication at Ohio University, residing in Athens, Ohio, and attending Ohio University for one academic year (fall and spring semesters).

The Enlight Fellowship

The School of Visual Communication offers a fellowship for graduate students from China (including the PRC, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Tibet Autonomous Region, and Taiwan). This generous fellowship is provided by The Enlight Foundation, a California nonprofit directed by Ohio University alumna Xin Liu and her husband Yong Ping Duan.
