Types of Programs
There are several different types of global opportunities available to OHIO students: OHIO-Credit, OHIO Exchange, Affiliates (including The Ohio International Consortium and ISA/TEAN), Virtual Experiences and Non-OHIO. Read more about each type below.
OHIO-Credit Programs
OHIO global programs give you the opportunity to travel with an OHIO faculty member and other OHIO students. There are many programs for students in all majors though classes are offered in specific disciplines.
- Use your OHIO financial aid and scholarships package (some exceptions may apply).
- You will receive direct OHIO credit for the program.
- Programs are typically a semester or shorter.
OHIO Exchange Programs
OHIO exchange programs give you the chance to live abroad independently while choosing from a full curriculum of courses at overseas universities. (Some exceptions on course offerings may apply).
- Use your OHIO financial aid and scholarships package (some exceptions may apply).
- Receive transfer credit and must complete a Foreign Study Checklist before you go.
- These programs last a semester or an academic year.
Affiliated Provider Programs
Affiliates are trusted providers who offer additional study abroad options. They have a variety of program offerings in countries around the world not available for a full semester or summer through OHIO-Credit or OHIO Exchange programs:
- Use your OHIO financial aid and scholarships package (some exceptions may apply).
- You receive transfer credit and must complete the Non-OHIO Registration before you go.
- Program length will vary (short-term and long-term available).
Our affiliated providers include:
American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS)
Academic Programs International (API)
Cultural Experiences Abroad (CEA)
Council on International educational Exchange (CIEE)
International Studies Abroad (ISA) / The Education Abroad Network (TEAN) by WorldStrides
University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC)
Ohio International Consortium (OIC) - The OIC is a partnership with other public universities in OHIO, like Kent State University or Miami University. This partnership allows for OHIO students to attend study abroad programs offered by those institutions.
Special note for ISA/TEAN:
Starting Fall 2022, WorldStrides will have an advisor on campus in the OHIO Office of Global Opportunities to advise on ISA and TEAN semester, summer and internship programs.
Non-Ohio University programs
Non-OHIO programs increase your options for studying abroad. Research these programs online at www.iiepassport.org or www.studyabroad.com.
- Only federal financial aid and scholarships or stipends specifically granted for study away will apply.
