From Our Director
On behalf of the African Studies faculty and staff, I want to welcome all of our incoming students to Athens and into our International Studies community.
As a cohort, you’re arriving from seven different countries on the continent (and the U.S.!), with many different experiences, skills, and aspirations for your time here. We’re very proud of this diversity, and we promise to work hard—with a wide range of classes, research and teaching opportunities, lectures and forums, art and performances—to provide you all with an opportunity to broaden your horizons and perspectives.
We also welcome your contributions to making our OHIO community a better and more interesting place, particularly for our undergraduate students, many of whom know little about Africa but are eager to learn. We promise you a rigorous, world-class education in African Studies, whatever your particular area of focus, and opportunities for networking and career growth. And in two years, we look forward to congratulating you on your graduation, and on sending you all back out into the world as professionals and advocates for Africa.
Best wishes for your future,
Dr. Brandon Kendhammer
Assistant Professor and Acting Director
